7 Best Safe & Effective Non-Toxic Toilet Bowl Cleaners

If you’re on the lookout for a good, non-toxic toilet bowl cleaner, here are seven best brands and options that truly clean well all while being safe for your health.

Toilets and bathroom are some of the most grimy places in your home, so of course you want to have effective, heavy duty products that give you a deep clean.

But, the majority of toilet bowl cleaners found in supermarkets and drugstores are literally chemical concoctions made from some pretty harsh cleaners, disinfectants, and other nasty ingredients – that really aren’t so great for your health.

For example, take your current toilet bowl cleaner. Are you thinking of it? When you clean with it does it make your bathroom smell all intense and “bleachy”. This is exactly what I mean.

Some of those harsh chemicals release fumes that really aren’t good for us to be breathing them in (or seep into the walls of your home).

Some harmful ingredients you want to steer clear of in your toilet bowl cleaner are:

  • chlorine bleach
  • amonnia
  • phthalates
  • formaldehyde
  • quarternary ammonium compounds
  • triclosan
  • sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) & sodium laureth sulfate (SLES)
  • artificial dyes and synthetic fragrances

And so on….

The great news? There are several amazing non-toxic toilet bowl cleaners on the market (that clean just as well, minus the negative health risks).

Baking Soda + Vinegar

A classic, cheap natural cleaning duo. Sprinkle baking soda along the edges of the toilet bowl, drizzle or spray vinegar over it, let it fizz and scrub!

Hydrogen Peroxide + Vinegar

For a deeper clean use one cup each of each ingredient and pour directly into the toilet bowl, scrub with a brush and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before flushing.

These ingredients are good for disinfecting and breaking down stains, mineral deposits and limescale.
