How To Make This Pine Needle Cough Syrup Recipe

  1. Head out to your local pine tree! You’re looking for fresh, green needles—young tips are best because they have the highest concentration of beneficial compounds. Cut them with clean scissors or snip them right off the branches. Wash them gently to remove any dust and dirt. Alternatively, you can buy fresh pine needles online or from a health store.
  1. In a jar, add the pine needles and pour in the boiling hot water, making sure to cover. Let sit for 40 minutes to an hour.

  1. After your infusion is ready, strain out the pine needles using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth. You want to keep the liquid and discard the solid bits.

  1. Once the liquid has cooled down slightly (not boiling hot) add the honey and stir until all mixed in. If the water gets cold, heat slightly until it mixes well.

If you use ½ cup honey, this will last 3 weeks if left in the fridge. You can freeze to preserve longer than a month.
